Community Organizations & Partners

The Greater Lansing area has a rich history of community and grassroots activism. Representatives from the following Lansing area neighborhood and community based organizations will be a part of the Feminisms and Rhetorics conference:

Allen Neighborhood Center promotes a broad range of programs that support the Eastside neighborhoods.

Eve's House provides free residential and non-residential supportive services to victims of domestic violence within Ingham County.

The Lane-Leota Group facilitates diversity training and awareness in the Lansing area.

The Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame, located in the historic Cooley-Haze house in Lansing, displays cultural and historical exhibits on the accomplishments and achievements of Michigan women. The Center is also home to the Belen Gallery in which the work of Michigan women artists and photographers is shown.

NorthWest Initiative work[s] to strengthen and sustain healthy communities in Lansing's 'grand neighborhoods' - the City area bounded by the Grand River on the north, east, and south.

The Advocacy, Re-entry, Resources and Outreach (ARRO) is a branch of the Northwest Initiative's Outreach Program that connects ex-offenders and their friends and families to quality resources to ensure successful community reintegration.

Nokomis Learning Center is a non-profit Native American cultural learning center located near Lansing, Michigan, dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Anishinaabeg culture. 

Power of We Consortium is a sustainable model for community building. Power of We include[es] grassroots community organizations, faith communities, nonprofits addressing social issues, school systems, municipalities, and human service agencies com[ing] together to mobilize the community's assets to solve complex social problems.

The RCAH Center for Poetry is part of the Residential College in Arts and Humanities (RCAH) at Michigan State University. The mission of the Poetry Center in RCAH is to encourage the reading, writing, and discussion of poetry and to create an awareness of its place and power in our everyday lives.

The Refugee Development Center provides refugees with skills they need to succeed in America's culture.

The Women's Center of Greater Lansing is dedicated to helping women realize their potential, support each other, achieve economic self-sufficiency, and develop emotional and physical well being, regardless of income level.
